License Terms

Version 1.0 — effective 23 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and NarNar Labs LLC ("NarNar Labs", "we") for the ShotJar macOS application and its updates (together, the "Software"). Plain-English summaries appear in places; where a summary and the full text differ, the full text controls.

1. Agreeing to these terms

You accept these terms by buying a license, or by installing or using the Software after having a reasonable opportunity to read them. If you do not agree, do not use the Software; if you bought it, you may ask for a refund under §11.

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher. If you are younger, you may use the Software only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who accepts these terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of it. The Software is not directed at children under 13.

2. Definitions

  • "App" — the ShotJar macOS application.
  • "Trial" — the free 14-day period during which the App works fully without a License Key.
  • "License Key" — the key issued to you at purchase that keeps the App working after the Trial.
  • "Your Content" — your screenshots and other files the App reads, and the text the App recognizes in them.

3. Your license

Plain-English summary: one purchase, yours to keep, on up to three Macs of your own.

Subject to these terms and your payment of the one-time purchase price, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Software, for any lawful purpose, on up to three (3) Mac computers that you own or control, for your own use. This is a license, not a sale of the Software.

During the Trial you may use the Software on the same terms without paying. When the Trial ends, the App stops showing your shelf until a License Key is entered; your files are never affected.

4. License Key

Your License Key is activated against the licensing service of Lemon Squeezy, our reseller, and the App re-checks it when it starts. Activation sends your License Key and your Mac's name; later checks send the License Key and the activation ID issued for that Mac. Never Your Content. The check fails open: an unreachable server never disables the Software.

You can move your license to another Mac by deactivating it on the old one (Settings › License › Deactivate This Mac). You may not sell, publish or share your License Key beyond the personal scope in §3, and you may not circumvent the key check or the Trial. If a purchase is refunded or charged back, the License Key is revoked and your license under §3 ends.

5. What you may not do with the Software itself

You may not, except where the law gives you a right we cannot exclude:

  • copy the App (other than for backup), or distribute, rent, sell or sublicense it;
  • modify the App or create derivative works of it;
  • reverse engineer or decompile the App, except to the extent a law expressly permits it despite this term (for example for interoperability);
  • remove or obscure legal notices;
  • circumvent license enforcement or the Trial.

This section is about the Software's code. It does not limit what you capture or keep, which is up to you, within the law.

6. Your content

Your screenshots, and the text recognized in them, are yours. We claim no rights in Your Content and never receive it: the App processes it on your Mac only. The App reads the folders you choose and never moves, edits or deletes your files. You are responsible for Your Content and for complying with the law, including others' privacy and copyright, in what you capture and keep.

Text recognition is automatic and may be incomplete or wrong. Do not rely on search results where a missed or misread word could cause harm.

7. Third-party components

The App includes Sparkle, the open-source update framework, licensed under the MIT License by its authors. Text recognition is provided by macOS under your agreement with Apple. Apple, macOS and other names are the trademarks of their owners; their appearance here is factual attribution and implies no endorsement of ShotJar.

8. Privacy and local processing

The Software is designed so that Your Content does not leave your Mac:

  • Screenshots are read, and their text recognized, on your Mac. Neither is uploaded anywhere.
  • There are no accounts, no analytics and no crash reporting.
  • The App connects to the internet only to check for updates at shotjar.app and to activate and check your License Key with Lemon Squeezy (§4). Neither carries Your Content.

The full privacy policy is at shotjar.app/privacy. If a future version changes any of the above, the change will be stated plainly in the release notes before you install it.

9. Updates

We may provide updates but are not obliged to. Updates are covered by these terms unless they come with new ones. The App checks for updates automatically; you can turn that off in Settings, and updates install only when you choose to.

10. Term and termination

These terms apply until terminated. Your one-time purchase entitles you to use the version you bought, and any updates we make available to it, perpetually, subject to these terms. We may terminate your license if you materially breach these terms and, where the breach can be cured, fail to cure it within 14 days of notice. On termination you must stop using the Software and delete your copies. Sections 6, 7, 8, 12, 13 and 15–17 survive termination.

11. Refunds

Purchases are refundable as described in our refund policy at shotjar.app/refund, which forms part of these terms. Refunds are issued by Lemon Squeezy, which sold you the license, and a refunded License Key is deactivated.

Statutory refund and withdrawal rights in your country, including EU and UK digital-content rights where they apply, are in addition to this and are not affected by anything in these terms.

12. Disclaimer of warranty

The Software is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that text recognition will be accurate, that every screenshot will be found, or that the Software will be error-free. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or of statutory consumer guarantees; in those places this section applies only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these terms excludes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, or another place with statutory consumer guarantees, you keep those guarantees, including any right to a remedy when digital content is faulty or not as described, and this section and §13 do not limit them.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law: (a) we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from these terms or the Software; and (b) our total liability for all claims relating to the Software is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited (such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, where applicable law so provides).

14. Export control

You may not use or export the Software in violation of applicable export control and sanctions laws, including those of the United States.

15. Severability

If any provision of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

16. Assignment; entire agreement; changes

You may not assign these terms; we may assign them to a successor of the ShotJar product who assumes our obligations. These terms, together with the documents they reference (the privacy policy and the refund policy), are the entire agreement about the Software. We may revise these terms for future versions of the Software; a revision applies to you only when you install a version that ships with it.

17. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Pennsylvania, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes shall be brought in the courts located in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania (or the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where it has jurisdiction).

If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction whose law gives you the right to bring proceedings locally, or grants you mandatory consumer protections, that right is not affected by this section.
